A Little History
When I was a young boy, I loved to trap and hunt. I was raised in Pueblo, CO, and my trap lines started along the Arkansas River for raccoon, fox and beaver. I had a knack for catching most everything that I set for. It wasn't long before I had a reputation as a beaver trapper and was noticed by others having beaver problems. I soon found myself trapping problem beaver for farmers, ranchers and wildlife agencies. I started out with handguns like most young folks that like to hunt. I had a passion for the out of doors, woodcraft and trapping that eventually led me into hunting and trapping on a professional level later in life.
The high fur prices of the 1970's provided an opportunity to keep me trapping and I ran long trap lines for coyote, fox and bobcat. I also found that I was good at making my own predator lures that performed better than anything I was able to buy from trapping supply houses. I decided to market my lures and start a business in 1983 called High Country Control. In the early 1990's I found a cast jaw that was superior to any lamination that trappers were using in their coyote traps. This jaw has a large offset and wide jaw face, so I decided to buy the rights and build my traps around this jaw. We now carry 5 versions of the Coyote Cuff Trap. These traps are all handmade in our shop.
I really enjoyed working on single action handguns and in 1997 I started to get serious and began getting instruction from some of the best pistol smiths around. As it so happened, I still needed income to outfit myself and upgrade the shop, so I acquired a job working for the USDA as a government hunter. This was a dream job for me because I could tote any handgun I wanted day in and day out and test it on depredating bears, coyotes, lions or anything that I was directed to hunt or that was causing agricultural problems.
Almost 30 years later I find myself still shooting, hunting, trapping and doing animal damage control work. Through out my trapping career, I have gained a lot of experience. With this experience I can offer the best in management products for the professional trapper. I am an old school kind of guy and we live by simple rules – God, Family, work hard and play hard. What else is there?
